The Wholesale Applications Community has been established to increase the overall market for mobile applications.

WAC will achieve this goal by encouraging:

• open standardized technologies
• driving scaled deployment of those technologies and
• providing complimentary commercial models.

This will allow developers to deploy a single application across multiple devices (through the use of standard technologies) and across multiple operators (without the need to negotiate with each of them). WAC will provide the commercial enablers which will allow the developer to be paid for the applications which are then sold through any associated application store.

Enabling developers

WAC will promote the use of web technologies to enable developers to write a single application which can run across multiple mobile device platforms. WAC will also enable all applications to be deployed across the many retail application stores of its operators. Together, this will really enable developers to write once and deploy everywhere.

The end result of the WAC approach will be to massively increase the number of applications which are available to users by simplifying and lowering the cost of their development, testing and deployment by developers. WAC is the vehicle to bring the mobile industry together to achieve this goal.
